    Americas LibreOffice DVD Project Page

Welcome to the Americas LibreOffice DVD Project Page. The need for a regional LibreOffice DVD for North America and subsequently for Central and South America led to the cooperation of this project.

This project is still in the minor editing stages for the English language version as the need arises, and updates to the install versions as well. We have created several version of our DVD, at this time, and will post the DVD ISO file(s) link(s) as they become available.

We are in the early planning stage for the Español [Spanish] and Française [French] versions.  The project started out as a direct translation of the German LibreOffice-Box project and then was modified for the North American (NA), Central American (CA) and South American (SA) markets.  Our current focus includes, but is not limited to; Canada, USA, Mexico, and "Latin America" [from north to south] regions.

The site for the testing of our DVD and its contents [currently English only] is at LibreOffice-NA.US, plus see the latest links to ISO files, labels designs, and documents for the DVDs there.

    Disk Content

Currently: This DVD is an English Language DVD [with Spanish-Mexico and French-Canada] sections to be added.

The DVD has several Browser-based menus that help guide you through its content. The main/top menus are: Intro – index.html, Install, Module, Extensions, Templates, Extras, Documentation, Artwork. Plus the following that can be accessed through the “read more...” links: Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Base, Math, as brief information about the different “modules” to LibreOffice. There are included in the DVD many add on extensions, templates, galleries, along with most of the known dictionaries [spellcheckers, thesaurus, hyphenation, medical, science, and proper name spelling].

There is a folder on the DVD that contains many sample files, for Writer, Calc, Impress, etc., for the users possible use. There is also a sub-folder, in that group, has 2011 and 2012 [plus others] calendars for Writer and Calc.

You are able to either use the HTML pages to guide you through the contents of the DVD, or you can browse the DVD since it has folder names that are relevant to its content.

    Disk Documentation and translation

The documentation section include the LibreOffice documents, along with the Openoffice.org 3.x versions until LibreOffice documents become available for those subjects. The plan for the near future is to have teams translate the HTML files to Spanish and French as separate DVD. Then these non-English sections will be merged with the English version to make one DVD of the material for English, Spanish, and French languages.

    Extensions (number of extensions)

There are 45 suggested extensions being contemplated on the DVD folder for EN. Currently there are more files in the folder that are referenced on an HTML page. That may change in the future. These are in a .zip file. ES and FR extensions are still being considered.

Please go to the http://libreoffice-na.us wed site to see the current list of Extension on the NA-DVD. The included list changes with the available updates and other factors.

    Templates (number of templates)

There are 25 suggested templates being considered on the DVD folder for EN. Currently there are more files in the folder that are referenced on an HTML page. That may change in the future. These are in a .zip file  ES and FR extensions are still being considered.

Please go to the http://libreoffice-na.us wed site to see the current list of Templates on the NA-DVD. The included list changes with the available updates and other factors.

    Still to work on

    • list of all files on the DVD that need updating once a new version of LibreOffice is released in order to streamline the updating process and minimize the amount of time between DVD updated versions
    • creation of a CD version
