## Function name:

TANH

## Category:

Mathematical

## Summary:

Returns the hyperbolic tangent of a number.

## Syntax:

TANH(**Number**)

## Returns:

Returns the hyperbolic tangent of **Number**. The resultant value is between -1 and +1, i.e. [-1,+1].

## Arguments:

**Number** is the real number, or a reference to a cell containing that number, whose hyperbolic tangent value is to be calculated.

## Additional details:

The formula for the hyperbolic cotangent is:

where N is the Number

The GIF below illustrates the function TAN.

## Examples:

Formula | Description | Returns |
---|---|---|

=TANH(0) | hyperbolic tangent of 0 | 0 |

=TANH(1) | hyperbolic tangent of 1 | 0.761594155955765 |
