How do I create an Impress presentation "to go" that is readable by a user who does not have LibreOffice installed on their machine?

    1. There is no "viewer" for Impress in Windows (there used to be StarOffice Player, but it is no longer available). In GNU/Linux, you can use:
    1. The policy of LibreOffice is not to develop this type of viewer for the time being. For further details, cf. the section for advanced users at the bottom of this FAQ.
    2. However we may need to export a presentation in a format legible without LO. There are various possibilities, detailed below:
    • export the presentation in Acrobat Reader format (.PDF).
      • readable with the Acrobat Reader, which comes free of charge and is available on practically all machines.
      • You can simulate the equivalent of a .PPS (automatic launch) at the time of export by ticking "Open in fullscreen mode" on the "User Interface" tab of the File ▸ Export as PDF menu.
      • the hyperlinks are active
      • You can use the transitions provided by Impress by ticking "Use the transitions" at export (the "User Interface" tab of the menu File ▸ Export as PDF)
      • Inconveniences: animations do not work. You can create some intermediate slides to "decompose" the transition effect.
    • export the presentation in html format (.html)
      • Readable with any browser.
      • Inconvenience 1: transitions don't work. You can create some intermediate slides to "decompose" the transition effect
      • Inconvenience 2: the html format will require you to create several files (in fact, one for each slide plus one for each image, which is a lot!). You will need to remember to copy all these html files and the image (.JPG) files which you have made.
    • export the presentation in Flash format (.SWF).
      • Readable with any browser equipped with the Flash plugin (most browsers).
      • Inconvenience: transitions don't work. You can create some intermediate slides to "decompose" the transition effect
    • save the Impress presentation as a .PPT (PowerPoint) file, then use the PowerPoint viewer
      • Readable with any computer that has the PowerPoint viewer.
      • Advantage: this viewer is available gratis from Microsoft and has has a smaller footprint than the full LibreOffice suite (25.8 MB). It can therefore be attached to the presentation on a USB stick or a CD-ROM.
