LibreOffice Quick Look extensions in Finder

macOS supports Quick Look for the most common Microsoft Office documents (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, etc.). macOS also supports LibreOffice Writer documents (.odt) but macOS does not support any other LibreOffice document types.

In LibreOffice 25.2, LibreOffice added Quick Look support for the most common LibreOffice documents (.ods, .odp, .odg, etc.).

    Installation

    • Download and install LibreOffice 25.2 or higher: Quick Look is bundled with the LibreOffice application.
    • Launch LibreOffice from the Finder: This should cause macOS to recognize LibreOffice's bundled Quick Look extensions.
    • Relaunch the Finder: Press the ⌘ Cmd+⌥ Option+Escape keys and, in the dialog that appears, select the Finder entry, and click the Relaunch button. This should cause the Finder to regenerate its thumbnail and preview images using LibreOffice's bundled Quick Look extensions.

    Known issues

    • LibreOffice Quick Look extensions do not work with Writer documents: macOS already supports LibreOffice Writer documents (.odt). So, macOS ignores LibreOffice's bundled Quick Look extensions and uses its own Quick Look extension to generate thumbnail and preview images for LibreOffice Writer documents.
