Well, on every page at the moment the AR folks adding that div tag. why shouldn't we add this (as easier to modify all pages) or use that as a "subst:" template? (If used for transcluding on all pages, we should def. protect this and some more templates as they could be the point of interest for spammers: changing one templates, result on many (hundreds of) pages.

    Hello there,
As I know, there is already "RTL" mechanism in mediawiki engine. See http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Directionality_support so the best solution in this case is to use already implemented solution. If for some reason this is not possible, I agree - we should create (edit?) new template {{RTL|text}} which gonna provide the same functionality, as AR and AR-end together.
    Cheers!

The linked "solution" is only possible for complete wikis - so not usable in this one for all wiki.
The second one is also not usable as nearly all content of a page (even pipes) have to be within a templateparameter - and the closing brackets will get lost.
At the moment many ar pages using that HTML code and at the end of the page a tag.

But maybe we could use http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Hooks/PageContentLanguage
Like in example, but if page title ends with '/ar' mark content language as ar. I'm not a mediawiki expert, I just want to reduce number of templates. :) Maybe we should move this talk to mailing list? I think we also should check out http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Translate if we are thinking about stable, multilang wiki.

Yeah that could work and I think the translate extension would be great for removing that many (useless) templates and content (or better saying: design) additions on every page... Dennis Roczek (talk) 2014-01-09T10:41:47 (UTC)
