Introduction & Top Ten of Requests

The LibreOffice Bugzilla bug tracking system does not support Votes for requests as it is available for OpenOffice.org. Here you find an experimental Voting (or better: statistical online survey), currently with only very few rules and only for Enhancement requests. Please add a short comment (1 line) starting with # at the end of the list you want to support and sign with -- ~~~~ . Good arguments have more influence than numerous votes.

Please

  • add new survey for new Enhancement requests in front of the old first vote.
  • add pseudo keyword VOTE to Bug Report Whiteboard field
  • keep in mind, these "votes" are completely non-binding for decision what requests will be fulfilled.

tdf#56696 - Enhancement/UI: Recent Document List Enhancement

I agree with that request

  1. Yes the ability to control the recent documents list to show just those of the currently active component would be very helpful.

I disagree with that request

tdf#37336 - Feature request: Apply buttons

I agree with that request

  1. It is so important that GNOME opted to make Apply functionality automatic for any change in a preferences/formatting dialog, for all apps.
  2. This is quite a good idea. Seems to be basic functionality of almost any GUI app, but LibO lacks it.

I disagree with that request

tdf#37219 - Add exported PDF files to the recent documents list in current desktop environment

I agree with that request

  1. This feature would be really useful because: 1) Any file you used or created should be accessible from the recent docs list (especially on Linux where document journals are being developed). 2) When you export a file as PDF to save a copy of it, and immediately e-mail it, you can just select the PDF file in the recents list the mail app provides (I know you can use File->E-mail as..., but often you want to double-check the resulting file first, and possibly rename it.) At any rate, the argument provided by Gerald below is very strange, as LO shouldn't list PDF in its recent docs list if it cannot handle them properly, be them added to the list by LO or another app. Milanbv 2011-10-29T23:01:51 (CEST)
  2. Agree, as any filetype should be there. Librosaurus (talk) 2013-03-15T23:08:24 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

  1. I don't see any reason for that. "Recent documents" are used to open files again in LibreOffice that were used before in LibreOffice. This enhancement would lead to more confusion than anything else, if user try to open exported PDF files (if they were not Hybrid PDFs) again in LibreOffice which would not lead to the expected outcome. -- Gerald 2011-06-05T16:15:33 (CEST)
  2. This behaviour is precisely the difference between exported & saved documents. Exported ones are not expected to be opened, and as such, not shown in Recent list. -- MatM (talk) 2012-12-21T20:22:49 (UTC)

ple monitors=== tdf#37134 - Tabs (tabbed document interface) === I agree with that request

  1. Similar to Lotus Symphony, Firefox, Opera, gedit. This would truly make a killer-feature and hugely improve usability and productivity. It could be a toggled feature. There is even an abandoned extension that does it; still working to some extent: https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Framework/TabBrowse/Development -- Eresus 2012-02-29T19:37:33 (CEST)
  2. It would be a great easement having tabs in LibreOffice. I often work on several documents parallel, and changing between documents over tabs is more simply than over the taskbar. -- 2012-04-16T18:08:43 (CEST)
  3. If combined with a shortcut this is a very useful feature for me for quick switching in multiple documents. -- Deneb (talk) 2014-11-10T09:25:21 (UTC)
  4. It would be a good and useful enhancement, but to be kept both the possibility to have many documents to be tabbed and/or in their own windows. I even agree with the possibility to disable this feature and possibly to give the choice to have tabs vertical or horizontal. Gippy73 2014-11-10T10:45:30 (UTC)
  5. I also would like to vote for this feature. - A_H 2016-02-24
  6. I seriously need this feature! With multiple monitors (4 of them) and app windows open all over theplace, when I open multiple docs in Writer I definitely suffer when they all open in separate Writer windows. - NotesTracker (01 May 2016)

I disagree with that request

Neutral

  1. If something like tabs is integrated, please do provide an option to turn it off! For example: I'm working often on a 12" screen with my laptop and loosing again a few pixel will result in an even smaller productive area of the screen. Dennisroczek (talk) 2013-02-12T22:09:37 (UTC)

tdf#48722 - Gaussian shadows for objects

I agree with that request

  1. Gaussian shadows does not only look more modern, but they are also already pressent in MS Office and Calligra Office. Any imported document saved previously with these software will result in something different than the original file--Phorious (talk) 2013-03-21T17:34:54 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#88774 - Text watermarks (background) in Writer, Calc, Impress and Draw

I agree with that request

  1. I'm vreator of the poll and I think it is useful, easy to implement and doesn't complicate interface at all. Yanpas (talk) 2015-01-24T12:18:39 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#88775 - Add feature to export to image not only current page, but all pages in Writer and Impress

I agree with that request

  1. Exporting to PNG (or JPG) is good way to protect your document from copying (instead of PDF with poor password protection). Very easy to implement. There should be checkbox with "All pages" in export menu. Now it exports only current page. Why does it protects? If you will use complicated fonts even OCR would not be able to recognize tyour document. Yanpas (talk) 2015-01-24T12:30:37 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#89369 - Add custom styles for drawing objects to Writer and Calc

I agree with that request

  1. All draw objects in Writer and Calc are with SkyBlue1 and SkyBlue2 colors by default, while in Draw and Impress you can edit default color by editing style of drawing object. Because of this it is unable to put to the panel elements such as "Line with arrow on the end" which is handy for drawing schemes. Adding styles of drawn objects will solve this problems. Yanpas (talk) 2015-02-15T09:02:25 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#32281 - Export a log of emails not sent in 'Sending e-mail messages' dialog

I agree with that request

  1. When Mail Merge Wizard send fails, it's possible to see the list of invalid e-mails in Sending e-mail messages dialog. It would be useful to have an option to export this list as a log file.-- Deneb (talk) 2015-10-12T10:24:22 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#41316 - Page styles should support hierarchical parent-child relationships (like paragraph or character styles)

I agree with that request

  1. This would greatly simplify the creation of templates for every user because the different page styles are often very similar and therefore could be linked together.--Rbecke (talk) 2013-10-21T05:18:07 (UTC)
  2. I agree, I have created page styles for several documents, and it becomes quite tedious to see that you cannot create a new style from a previous style, already formatted in a totally different way than the default. Phorious (talk) 2013-10-31T02:06:07 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#36574 (i#9437) - Change default bullet type

I agree with that request

  1. This is one of the first issues a user notices when pressing "Bullets On/Off" on the toolbar. There is no way to change the default list type for: "F12" & "Shift+F12". (This bug already has 57 votes in AOO)--Rbecke (talk) 2013-10-21T05:18:07 (UTC)
  2. Migration from ms office to libre office is problematic without this feature in companies with strong document style politic.

I disagree with that request

tdf#32484 - Allow anchor settings in frame styles

I agree with that request

  1. This would make the modification of default frame styles anchor type possible (tdf#36535)--Mderoucy (talk) 2013-10-20T14:47:24 (UTC)
  2. This would could make the placement of images more predictable (I prefer Anchor as character by default).Taylorh140 (talk)

I disagree with that request

tdf#49258 - EDITING TABLES: No easy way to move and resize

I agree with that request

  1. Handles make more easy move table into page --Sergey Aka (talk) 2013-05-22T12:22:08 (UTC)
  2. What it is not there? --forekko (talk) 2013-05-23T06:18:38 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#44761 - eMail merge: Print document if target address is empty

I agree with that request

  1. I agree fully, at least alternative a, b would be even better - oftentimes a document must be sent via eMail to some and via Mail to some others, would like to do this in one step without filtering the address DB data source (filters are not saved to the data sources...) two times and send out also two times... Thorongil 2012-01-13T19:34:02 (CET)

I disagree with that request

  1. I fully disagree without any reading of the bug. THIS IS SPAM TOOL option, be aware. Well, when I read the description, I was sure. It is. Librosaurus (talk) 2013-03-15T23:04:35 (UTC)

tdf#31481 - Split windows for single document/multiple files

I agree with that request

  1. It is useful to split window horizontally and vertically for single document or multiple files. Especially on new widescreen monitors. -- Timur LOL 2011-06-11T17:42:39 (CEST)
  2. I agree. Very useful when editing a document or when comparing two documents. It would also be helpful if the documents could be displayed without the empty top and bottom margins of successive pages and of split pages (as has been possible in Microsoft Office Word for many years). The latter is especially useful on smaller screens, such as on netbooks. -- Leo H 2012-01-11T17:27:46 (CET)
  3. I agree fully, manny people wait for it for a long time take a look at this bug for openoffice reported in 2003! i#19291 Passerpunt 2012-01-11T18:32:15 (CET)
  4. basic feature, should be added ASAP. UrmasD 2012-08-06T03:40:33 (CEST)
  5. Oh yeah! I love applications with the possibility of a MDI Wikipedia logo v3.svg ! Dennisroczek (talk) 2013-02-12T22:09:37 (UTC)
  6. Mee too! There is the same feature in Calc, why not to port it to Writer? Yanpas (talk) 2015-01-23T22:12:41 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#36075 - Mail merge: Let the file name be from a variable

I agree with that request

  1. For E-Mail serial letter as PDF that would be great -- RBd 2011-05-15T10:17:05 (CEST)
  2. That would be also needed for all other mail fields like subject, mailcc and mailbcc. In a mail merge esp. the subject is "subject to change" from mail to mail... -- BZT42 2013-01-26
  3. Inserting a custom file name from a variable would be useful also when you need to compose a more detailed file name. Deneb (talk) 2015-10-12T10:11:54 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#34355 - Use margins to track changes

I agree with that request

  1. This is one of the most important missing features hindering people to use Writer in professional environments. I have seen many people switching back to Word due to this limit in Writer. -- Gerald 2011-06-05T16:04:54 (CEST)
  2. In my company we use track changes intensively (in Word), because a document may be revised by many users, from different departments. We will only be able to change definitively to LibreOffice when this feature in Writer is enhanced. -- gcoelho 2011-06-10T17:56:00
  3. Top priority issue and I fully agree. "Compare Document" in LibreOffice Writer at the moment is completely clueless and completely incompetent (see comment 6 in Bug 34355). In a real-world professional document production and editing environment, especially in collaborative contexts, revision and version management and control is absolutely essential. LibreOffice Writer remains woefully inadequate here. The ability to perform precise and fine-grained version comparison itself is, in fact, even more important than the manner in which the results are presented. At present, Microsoft Office Word still remains the only choice for competent change tracking between versions of a document. -- Leo H 2012-01-11T17:12:33 (CET)
  4. I agree as this is very important from a competitive perspective --Leif Lodahl
  5. I would like to support this request. My work also relies on collaborative editing. Focused as we are at my company on pro-poor development, I would like to move away from reliance on proprietary software like MSWord. The in-line track changes function in LibreOffice, however, is cumbersome—especially when multiple authors are stacking changes on one another's revisions. Currently there is no free software platform that allows for this sort of fine-tuned collaborative editing. Would be terrific to see! --aaronkyle
  6. In-line track changes is inadequate in collaborative contexts, since most of the times you want to see the 'final' text and not a mess of old and new text. It gets so confusing that it is just not usable. Deleted parts should be kept away from the text. The lack of this feature makes my colleagues and me go back to Word when we have to work with several other authors in the same document. It would be a great enhancement. --blargh
  7. My Word-based colleagues believe I have 'mangled' the document when I add tracked changes and re-circulate. There seems to be only minimal interoperability between LO and Word in this area. -- Ffinlo (talk) 2013-01-13T18:38:21 (UTC)
  8. This is also important to me. I need this feature in order to use LO for documents I or colleagues need to reviews. -- Libcub (talk) 2013-02-02T08:00:34 (UTC)
  9. Extremely important for work in collaborative environments (business, academia). Donbrookman (talk) 2013-02-02T17:58:57 (UTC)
  10. Extremely important: This is one of the two bugs preventing many in my professional environment from abandoning MS Office. Everyone nowadays is used to changes being visualised in the margins. --Johannes Rohr (talk) 2014-02-14T10:48:08 (UTC)
  11. Showstopper: I am in an academic environment where collaborative writing is pivotal. I would like to introduce my students to LO, but can't without this feature working well. A particular complication for Linux users is that Word plugins (Mendeley and other reference managers) are not supported in wine, so that one has to choose between non-existent reference management (MS Word) or insufficient "Track Changes" support (LO). -- Hasinasi (talk) 2015-02-10T21:52:57 (UTC)
  12. Anyone performing more than just cursory edits in a collaborative environment absolutely requires this feature. It's impossible to view a document filled with edits using the available formatting. --Bailiwick (talk) 2015-09-04T02:25:23 (UTC)
  13. I support this enhancement in general. But I think a combination of the MS system and LO system could be better. Having changes in a bubble and when hovering the bubble showing them in the main text. --Hedaja (talk) 2015-10-11T22:10:56 (UTC)
  14. Killer argument in our enterprise enviornment for not migrating to LO. --Nickk (talk) 2015-12-12T16:27:50 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

  1. tdf34355 comment 17: Not so good idea for me. In the printscreen attached to the bug report it is very difficult to see the deleted text. You can't read the text as it was before deletion, that is very inconvenient when you have to decide to accept or refuse the change. I would prefer an easy way to switch on/off the viewing of changes. Please, be creative, do not mimic MS-Office. --Jbfaure 2015-02-23T05:10:15 (UTC)

tdf#38159 - Better full text justification with auto character scaling and paragraph level adjustment

I agree with that request

  1. LibreOffice has the potential to be an incredibly powerful and user-friendly tool for more professional looking typeset documents. Bringing the full text justification quality and features (i.e. auto character scaling and paragraph level adjustment) in line with how free DTP software has done it for many years now, would save so much time for professional quality work. It would make Libre Office an easier choice for many people who want to produce high quality typeset documents, while using a familiar office suite with a great UX. -- Joe 2012-04-02T04:00:00 (CEST)

I disagree with that request

tdf#56369 - Specify a font-family or a few alternative fonts instead of only one font for each style

I agree with that request

  1. Instead of specifying only one font for each style, it would be useful to be able to insert a (comma separated) list of fonts, which would then used according to the available fonts on each machine. The same way the CSS font-family Property works ( http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_font_font-family.asp ). This would be very useful to exchange documents with other people who might not have your fonts, or to work with the same document on different computers, without loosing entirely the intended appearance of the document. -- blargh 2012-10-24T22:38:00 (CEST)

I disagree with that request

tdf#84548 - Mail labels : improve usability of this process

I agree with that request

  1. LibreOffice is able to create mail labels, but I think that everyone who tried would say that it is a difficult, non intuitive and non flexible task. The opinions I heard came mostly from people who used before Microsoft Office 2003 (11 years old), from the Internet (including Linux forums, where people are maybe more used to search and to think), and from myself. I think mail labels is an usual and important task for many businesses and schools. --YvanM

Votes - Calc

tdf#90669 - Print: enhancement: Monochrome printing from Calc

I agree with that request

  1. In MS Excel there's a feature for printing cells in "black-and-white". In Calc if you set the "black and white" from the print properties, the background color will be printed in gray. It could be useful to print with no background color. Draw, Impress and Writer have this feature. (See:Printing_in_Black_and_White) Deneb (talk) 2015-10-02T07:14:59 (UTC)
  2. I agree, useful --Valtermura (talk)
  3. The same for me --Gippy73 (talk)
  4. Usuful request --Midimarcus (talk)
  5. I agree, useful --Elcico (talk)

I disagree with that request

tdf#42375 - UI: "Insert rows" only inserts one row

I agree with that request

  1. With numerous add-on for MS Excel, the users have the ability to specify the number of rows to add. Select the same number of rows you want insert in the sheet and use the insert function isn't a real confortable solution. For example we could create a dialog similar to the one in Writer for inserting a new table (ctrl+F12). The user could choice how many rows/columns adds and from which position start to insert the new rows/columns. --Deneb (talk) 2014-05-26T09:11:58 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#62925 - FORMATTING: enhancement: please add "chart styles" to the styles of Calc

This is also an idea for a Google Code of Summer task.

I agree with that request

  1. This is very important to me as it would save a lot of time by using our favourite styles directly instead of relying on one limited default setting and modifying every parameter one by one, as well as modifying all charts following the style all at once. Chtfn (talk) 2013-11-01T07:55:10 (UTC).
  2. Extremely usefull for people who works with a really big number of charts.Phorious (talk) 2013-11-01T13:40:32 (UTC)
  3. Chart styles would be a great enhancement. For example, I often produce the same type of document for online publication (PDF with coloured charts) and for print (black&white charts). There is no way to make this easy in Calc. -- GerryT (talk) 2014-01-30T08:35:30 (UTC)
  4. I'm really missing this. I'm producing a number of graphs for monochrome publications; each graph is different enough that I cannot just copy-paste and adjust data ranges, so for each graph (or group of graphs) I have to manually change each data series to an acceptable format. ianjo (talk) 2014-04-10T10:24:00 (UTC)
  5. I frequently need to edit the various line widths and colors (axes, grids), and the fonts types/sizes because my eyes are bad, thus the default styles are not suitable. Lineinthesand (talk) 2014-11-05T08:50:53 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#37276 - Add Insert Column Break to context menu for multi-column-sections

I agree with that request

  1. Current handling is unintuitive, most users try a right click if they don't know they should continue. -- RBd 2011-05-17T08:13:08 (CEST)

I disagree with that request

tdf#35077 - add option to turn off special effects such as flashing lines around copy fields

I agree with that request

  1. The flashing lines are very distracting, awkward to deactivate if just below title (a bug), and even if wanted, don't behave in a coherent manner.
  2. That recognizes me always of the HTML marquee tag... Dennisroczek (talk) 2013-02-12T22:09:37 (UTC)
  3. It is annoying, distracting, creates additional CPU/battery usage, and is damaging to thin client and remote users. Having an option to turn it off or at least time out after X seconds is perfectly reasonable. -- Crxssi (talk) 2013-08-05T22:33:30 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

  1. As mentioned in the bug report you can easily get rid of the flashing lines by pressing Esc key immediately after Ctrl-C. --Rpr (talk) 2013-07-20T11:37:07 (UTC)

tdf#40975 - Add "differentiation" function to Calc

I agree with that request

  1. I really think it could be a very good and useful function for those who works with formulas in spreadsheets and derivatives. Complex derivatives could be achieved by hand, or using programs like Maxima or Maple. Being able to evaluate a derivative in a spreadsheet directly could be very useful.-Phorious 2011-09-18T00:40:52 (CEST)

I disagree with that request

  1. I disagree this function is a good addition to a spreadsheet processor. There are too many options for implementation: how to select proper boundary conditions, which algorithm (finite differences of different orders, FFT method, etc.) to select, which step in x to select, whether the step is constant or varying, ... . And you can't just take first what looked simple or what you like more - it will work only in some cases, while spreadsheet processor is quite a generic application. Moreover, with differentiation you'd want to add integration, ODE solving, ... So this has to go to advanced math packages, not Calc. 10110111 (talk) 2013-09-20T18:03:21 (UTC)

tdf#33152 - Using dynamic names for printing areas

I agree with that request

  1. Currently, "Format> Print range> Edit" does not use names referring to ranges whose references are calculated by formula. If so, we would have print ranges truly dynamic. --Pierre-yves samyn 2012-01-12T11:45:43 (CET)

I disagree with that request

tdf#45893 - PRINTING: add feature to print charts

I agree with that request

  1. This feature with Bug 30944 would be a great enhancement. Lotus 123 has it for about 20 years, Excel has it also--Horst 2012-09-04T22:26:33 (CEST)
  2. A very important feature, and a real shortcoming of LibreOffice, which can make people stay with MS Office. --Raw text 2012-09-06T09:37:22 (CEST)
  3. That feature would have been very useful over a year ago for a master tesis of a friend of mine I was helping. Dennisroczek (talk) 2013-02-12T22:09:37 (UTC)
  4. Extremely useful. I'd need that some eight years ago... with OOo 1.9 then.Librosaurus (talk) 2013-03-15T22:45:50 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#90074 - Add autocomplete for localized functions and list of equal Excel and LO formulas

I agree with that request

  1. There alread took place the discussions about translating formulas in CALC to different languages like it is made in Excel and it was denied. I suggest another kind of feature, autocomplete formulas. For example I use russian version of LO and type =СУМ and LO offers me to replace СУМ by SUM. I press enter and get the formula "=SUM". Everybody are happy: all formulas will be in English, Excel users will feel much more comfortable. At least must be added article to help menu with the corresponding Local and English formulas like this to help menu link :) Yanpas (talk) 2015-03-17T22:06:30 (UTC)

Votes - Impress

tdf#38263 - Zooming presentation

I agree with that request

  1. ...because the best way to impress the audience is to use zooming presentation which gives a big picture, so they remember at least that -- Timur LOL 2011-06-13T19:55:15 (CEST) .

I disagree with that request

tdf#38164 - Change slides in Impress when editing and slide is fully shown in the window

I agree with that request

  1. It would be nice to have an option to change the page, a la pageup/pagedown, when scrolling with the mouse wheel in impress. Because scrolling is the first move someones does going through slides. -- Timur LOL 2011-06-11T16:30:51 (CEST)

I disagree with that request

tdf#41572 - Please make it possible to add custom animations to master slides

I agree with that request

  1. Example use case: "A common style is to have each bullet point on each slide appear on click. At present this is laborious to achieve in LibreOffice: one has to go through each slide and add a custom animation to each bullet point. It should be possible to do this once on the master slide." -- Bugmenot (talk) 2013-05-01T08:58:39
  2. Strongly agree, would make it so much easier for everyone. Most people need consistency throughout their presentations - this feature would save the user a lot of time. Chtfn (talk) 2013-08-26T01:39:42 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

Votes - Draw

tdf#56498 - Add Layer manager window

I agree with that request

  1. To improve handling the layers it is necessary to add a new window similar to Navigator (F5) which will show (and let to change) all layers, their status, order, visibility, (opacity) etc... Similar functions as in Gimp for example. This speeds up work with more then one layer and makes it comfortable. Imcon (talk) 15:44, 28 October 2012 (UTC) .

I disagree with that request

Votes - Other

tdf#39052 - FORMATTING single characters in titles, axis titles and other labels in charts is not possible

I agree with that request

  1. This is IMHO a big issue, for example for research staff (like me) who would like to use the charting capabilities of LibreOffice for creating publication-level plots. At the moment, it is even impossible to use subscripts or superscripts in order to render chemical formulas - like CO2 or H2O - or mathematical values - like x4 - properly in title or any other text box. This issue draws many scientists away from LibreOffice. --Chtfn (talk) 2013-06-01T07:58:02 (UTC)
  2. I agree with this request for the same reasons I wrote in the bug report and the ones that Chtfn pointed out. Phorious (talk) 2013-06-01T13:45:55 (UTC)
  3. I agree with this request to correctly write units for axis for instance --Jumbo444 (talk) 2016-02-24T18:01:55 (UTC)

tdf#44902 - Make it easier to align equations on a particular character (especially equal sign)

I agree with that request

I disagree with that request

  1. As far as I can tell, if I understand the request, it is *already* possible to align equation to a character, like "=". For example:
matrix{x+y # "=" # 5 ## y # "=" # 5-x}

should produce a set of 2 equations aligned on "=". The only disadvantage I see, is that all sections are centred, while equations at the left of "=" sign should be right-aligned and viceversa. -- Phorious

As one can read in the bug report, it is about making it *easier* to align equations to a character (i.e. without using a matrix). The reporter of the bug is aware of the possibility to use matrix, alignr, and alignl to achieve the expected result, but considers it to be quite inconvenient. --Bugmenot (talk) 16:25, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Oops, sorry in that case, I should have read better. In that case I do not disagree: it would be a nice usability feature, although not a priority. Phorious (talk) 01:10, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

tdf#35798 - Suppress of Blank Lines in Label and Envelope printing from Database

I agree with that request

  1. This is needed because many users cannot understand how to insert hidden codes into formatted labels and envelopes after merging from database --Techal 2011-05-18T18:04:45 (CEST)

I disagree with that request

tdf#35438 - Add a crash reporter (eg Breakpad)

I agree with that request

  1. I have been involved in bugs where the absence of a WIN crash report was very hindering -- RBd 2011-05-10T13:29:30 (CEST)
  2. Easier for the devs to collect data. Maybe with an "automatic send request" (which is of course able to turn off in the preferences) Dennisroczek (talk) 2013-02-12T22:09:37 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

tdf#33232 - Implement Skins and Visual Styles to better accommodate different hardware and user preferences

I agree with that request

  1. Especilly a "Quick Toolbar arranger" for different monitor sizes would be great! RBd 2011-05-10T07:33:28 (CEST)
  2. I don't know exactely what RBd refers with "Quick Toolbar arranger", but if that is allowing arrange buttons dragging them like in MS Office 2003 (pressing Alt also) it could be a good idea. User:Phorious
  3. I entirely agree with the proposal for skinning. Far too much development effort is wasted on UI matters, and splitting off innovation in design from function can only have huge benefits. For example: given the huge number of wide screen PCs with very restricted (x600, x768) vertical resolution, people could be devising systems where the menus etc. were at the side, not at the top. --Robert.E.A.Harvey (talk) 10:14, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
And see tdf#36400 --Robert.E.A.Harvey (talk) 10:23, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

I disagree with that request

  1. Adding UI "skins" doesn't encourage UI innovation -- it leads to UI fragmentation, makes it much harder to provide a good default UX (with designers having to think about not just one UI setup, but all of the various possible setups), and makes it more difficult to change things UI-wise by introducing the potential of compatibility issues. --Mirek2 (talk) 2014-02-02T12:50:37 (UTC)

tdf#46836 - Add a quick access toolbar (like citrus fizz, mini toolbar)

I agree with that request

  1. I agree it could improve fast formating of text, for people who is used to use the same tool on MS Offce 2007/2010. Although It's supposed that the correct way to format a document is through styles, this is intended for a simple&quick document. -- Phorious
