What Services does Talkyoo Provide?

Talkyoo is a German company that we use for Conference Calling. Talkyoo generously provides TDF and the LibreOffice teams conference-calling services free of charge. Talkyoo provides connectivity to their teleconferencing hub in two ways:

  • Telephone
  • Skype

What Teams/Groups use Talkyoo?

Please see the list of Teams on the Meetings page for more information.

Connecting from your computer

If there's no landline number in your country, you can try calling the US number using Google Hangouts. They allow free calls to US landline numbers from several countries with fairly good voice quality.

Joren has tested this method and offers these steps:

  1. Create a G+ account if you don't already have one
  2. Start a hangout at https://hangouts.google.com
  3. Your browser will notify you about "Installing a plugin"
  4. Download and install the plugin
  5. Enable the plugin if your browser asks to do so
  6. Open the context menu on the right-hand side of the screen and choose "use old UI/Hangouts version" (the new interface doesn't allow phone connections)
  7. Click on "Telephone" tab
  8. Enter the USA talkyoo number: which is currently +1 6467413310
  9. Click Add
  10. Click Hangout
  11. Open the toggle dialpad so you can enter room number
  12. By these means, you can also add other Hangout participants and bridge them to the phone room

NOTE: Please mute your phone (*1) upon calling in. When you want to say something unmute (*1) and then mute again when you're done

Skype (please avoid)

WARNING: using Skype is not recommended. It will cause problems, it is a pain, it often does not connect, so be warned!

Still interested in trying to use Skype?

You may use Skype to connect to and control the conference call system in a similar fashion to how you connect via the phone. You'll need to connect to the Skype user talkyoo_skype one time in advance of the call so your Skype Name may be confirmed by Talkyoo.

Please note the following:

  • Your Skype Name must be confirmed before you may join a conference call.
    • Confirmation may take several hours or even days. Really!
  • As of March 2013, we've have several users experience problems connecting via Skype on multiple different days -- even people with pre-confirmed Skype Names.
    • For now, we suggest always calling-in via phone, or at least having a phone available as a backup plan.
  • As mentioned above, Skype support is NOT recommended. Sorry!

How Do I Join a Conference Call?

  1. Find the conference-call Room Number you'll be using.
    • The Room Number should be provided to you by the particular LibreOffice team that's holding a meeting (e.g. QA Team, Website Team, etc..).
    • If you haven't been provided a number, it should be listed on the Meetings page for your team.
  2. Use one of the #Dial-in Numbers for your country -OR- Connect using #Skype.
  3. A German voice will ask you if you want to switch to English. Press [1] to do so.
  4. The voice will ask you to enter the room number and then the pound [#] key.
  5. You should hear and be able to speak to all other attendees.

Troubleshooting: If you have problems connecting, try contacting your team via IRC, via the appropriate Mailing list, or etc. The system can and does experience problems from time to time, and the connectivity issues you are experiencing may not be your fault or the fault of your equipment!

Dial-in Numbers

If a number for your country is not listed below, please check Talkyoo's International Numbers page to see if a new number has been added.

  • Only for public board calls: Every call may be recorded and made available as uncut audio file to the public afterwards. If you join, you agree that you will be recorded.
  • We do not charge a fee for joining the calls. However, normal phone costs apply. Please check your provider for more details.

  1. the room number
  2. if necessary, the room PIN (otherwise leave the field blank)

How Do I Setup/Run a Conference Call?

To run a conference call you'll need someone with the administrator access code to unlock the room for you. Please plan ahead of time to make sure that you have someone scheduled to fill this role.

As of Dec 2013, persons who have the access code include:

  • Björn Michaelsen
  • Petr Mladek
  • Florian Reisinger
  • Robinson Tryon
  • Members of the BoD (check to make sure...)

How do I open up the room for ESC calls?

  • create a new hangout, preferrably an empty one, so noone hears you messing with Talkyoo / steals the dial tones
  • click the 'add participants' link, in that dialog, click 'add Telephone number'
  • paste one of the US numbers listed above
  • it should tell you 'free call is available', then click 'add participant'
  • if you don't hear a German voice, press # (you get it after pressing this little grey keypad symbol in the participant popup)
  • if that doesn't work either, just type 21 24 86 XXX # the XXX is the PIN code you can get from one of the people mentioned above
  • probably another German message follows
  • press '3 #' to enable twoway phone conf (instead of listen-only mode)
  • then invite the usual hangout participants: Kendy, Moggi, Kohei, Miklos, Andras, Ahmad, Tsahi, Adam, Matus, Caolan, Michael, Sweetshark
