Talk:CalcTableRef
@Olivier: You have suggest a header "Referencing data in tables". It is not clear to me, what content do you want there. Please revise the whole structure according to your ideas now that I have added a lot of content.Regina (talk) 13:18, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
Some precision needed
@Regina:
You wrote
• In earlier versions of Calc, a database range in Calc may also be horizontally oriented. • Since version LO 5.1., "structured references" in Calc are only implemented for a vertically oriented database-range.
Question1
Does it means that recent versions of Calc (e.g. 24.8) cannot accept an horizontaly oriented database, independent of the "structured references"? In other words, if I'm not using a structured reference, can I set a database horizontally oriented?
EDIT:
11:16:55 AM - erAck: ohallot: I don't remember any version where a database range could be horizontally oriented; so yes, dbranges are vertically oriented.
- Where did I write "In earlier versions of Calc, a database range in Calc may also be horizontally oriented."? If I had written it so, then it would sound as if it is now not possible. But the option for a horizontal database range still exists.
- In file format it is the attribute table:orientation (19.690, part3) of the <table:database-range> element. In LibreOffice it is only implemented in connection with a database-sort definition and cannot be used in connection with a database-filter definition. It exists at least since LO 3.5. It is located on the Options page of the database-sort-dialog.
- If a database is horizontally orientated, then you can neither use structured references nor a database-filter definition. The new FILTER function is able to filter a horizontal database range.
- Olivier: Perhaps contact Eike again?
- Maybe Eike and I are mislead because there is no option to define a horizontal oriented database in the UI. The dialog does not have a checkbox for the orientation, nor have a checkbox for "First column of the database" and so. But let's leave it for another time.

Question2
[#Totals]
Is this keyword referring to the row starting with the word "Totals" or is this understood as the last line of the database range?
Also, if a row starts with word "Totals" in the middle of the range, is it the target of [#Totals] ?
If the last row starts with the word "totallum", is this row the target of [#Totals]?
- It is the last row of the database range and independent from the content in that row. It is related to the option "Contains totals row" in the "Define Database Range"-dialog. If the database definition has the option not marked, [#Totals] results in a #Ref! error. This option has no associated attribute in ODF file format and thus the information is lost, when saving as .ods file.Regina (talk) 17:31, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
[#Headers]
Same questions...
- It is the first row of the database range. It is related to the option "Contains Column Labels" in the "Define Database Range"-dialog. The attribute table:contains-header (19.604, part 3) of the <table:database-range> element is related. Regina (talk) 17:31, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
