How do I create my own templates?

For LibreOffice 4.x (and higher), follow these steps:

  • Create a presentation that can be used as a template (including any master page customization you need)
  • When the template document is complete, select File ▸ Save as template
  • Choose the category in which to save your template
  • Click Save and give your template a name

For LibreOffice 3.x and prior, follow these steps:

  • Create a presentation that can be used as a template (including any master page customization you need)
  • When the template document is complete, select File ▸ Template ▸ Save
  • If you want to create your own directory to store your templates (recommended):
    • Click Manage
    • In the dialog box that appears, click a name in the left side of the dialog box, click File ▸ New
    • A new directory named Unnamed will be created and appear in the left side of the dialog box
    • Name your new directory and press Enter to confirm the name, eg My Templates
    • Click Close
  • In the "Templates" window, under Categories, make sure your directory is selected
  • In the field New document template, enter a name for your template;
  • click OK

When you create a new presentation, you will find your template in the list of available templates.

If you want to make the template available to all users of the machine, you must save it in the category Presentation Templates (requires write permissions).
