Why do the titles of the chapters not appear in the table of contents or the Navigator when I use Header x styles?

If the navigator does not display all the title levels, this is because the hierarchy of styles (Header 1, Header 2,...) does not have a title level attached.

To correct this:

  • select the menu Tools ▸ Chapter Numbering ▸ Numbering [tab];
  • select the level;
  • in the Paragraph style dropdown menuarea, associate the paragraph style corresponding to this hierarchical level (default Header 1);
  • make the associations for the other hierarchical levels; and
  • click OK.

The chapter titles should now appear in the Navigator and will be displayed in the table of contents later.
