How do I get Roman numerals in the table of contents?
The Table of Contents uses whatever number format the Default Page Style settings uses for the page numbers. If the configuration of the page style is set to use Arabic numbers, the table of contents will use Arabic numbers; if the page setting uses the Roman numbers, the TOC will use the Roman numbers, and so on.
To change the numbering format of your Default Page Style, you have to set the numbering you want (here Roman numerals) in the page style. To do so:
- right-click on a typical page and choose ▸ or edit the page style using ▸ ▸ ;
- in the Layout Settings section, set Page numbers to the numbering type you want; and
- click OK.
The table of contents will subsequently use this type of numbering.
