Talk:Documentation/Calc Functions/STYLE
SF Comments
- (1) Summary. Suggest the following minor re-word – “Applies a style to the cell containing the function call and, optionally, applies a second style to that cell after a set delay.”.
- (2) Returns. The current wording is a little confusing. A simpler statement would be – “Returns the value 0, allowing you to add the STYLE function call to other components of a formula without changing the value of the formula.”.
- (3) Arguments, Style. Suggest replacing with – “Style is a string in quotation marks or a reference to a cell containing that string, which is the name of a defined cell style to be (initially) assigned to the cell.”.
- (4) Arguments, Time. Suggest changing “time range in seconds” to “delay in seconds before applying the Style2 cell style”. Suggest changing the second sentence to – “If this argument is omitted, the initially applied style will not be changed.”.
- (5) Arguments, Style2. Suggest replacing with – “Style2 is a string in quotation marks or a reference to a cell containing that string, which is the name of a defined cell style to be applied to the cell after the specified delay time has passed. If a delay time is specified and this argument is omitted, the cell will revert to the predefined Default Cell Style after the delay time.”
- (6) Arguments, general. What happens if one or both styles passed as arguments are undefined? What happens if a negative or zero value is passed for the Time argument?
- (7) Additional details. It would be worth making some comment as to when the style switching is re-started. Obviously when the function call is first entered in a cell. Also, when you select Data > Calculate > Recalculate Hard all STYLE function calls seem to be reset. Finally, when you select Data > Calculate > Recalculate, the STYLE function call in the selected cell seems to be reset. Need to check what happens when a file containing STYLE function calls is re-opened.
- (8) General. Possibly a contrived circumstance but what happens if you put two STYLE function calls in one cell? (Maybe you are hoping to get one colour change after a short period and another colour change after a longer period?)
- (9) Examples, general. I feel that the corresponding Open Office page at https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/How_Tos/Calc:_STYLE_function has some useful examples. Please review and check whether we can use any ideas from that page.
- (10) Examples, 1st example. I do not like the repeated use of the word format in this description. Suggest the following re-word – “The function formats the cell using the Invisible cell style for 60 seconds, then the Default cell style is applied. Both cell styles must be defined beforehand.”.
- (11) Examples, comment after Table. If the example on the CURRENT page adds anything to this function, then I suggest we also include the example here rather than just referring to it. If it has no value, then do not mention it.
