Talk:Documentation/Calc Functions/XNPV
SF Comments
- (1) Summary. Replace with “Calculates the net present value for an irregular series of cash flows and a specified annual discount rate.”.
- (2) Returns. Replace with – “Returns a real number which is the net present value (in currency units) based on an irregular series of cash flows and a given discount rate.”. The same currency unit as that of the cash flows?
- (3) Arguments, Rate. Insert “decimal” before “fraction”. Change “the internal rate of return for the payments” to “the annual discount rate”.
- (4) Arguments, Values. Please update to match revised definition of this argument in XIRR.
- (5) Arguments, Dates. Please update to match revised definition of this argument in XIRR.
- (6) Arguments, bullet. Insert “the” before “dimensions”. Presumably, “Dates” and “Values” should be in bold.
- (7) Arguments, bullets. The code indicates that you will get an error if there is only one cash flow / date pair.
- (8) Additional details. Suggest adding a comment to reflect that the calculation is based on a 365-day year, even in a leap year, using actual days difference.
- (9) Additional details. Suggest including a link to Wikipedia’s “Net present value page”.
- (10) Additional details. Can we state a formula to capture the relationship between XIRR and XNPV?
- (11) Examples, 1st example. Change “payments” to “cash flows”. Change “national internal rate of return” to “discount rate”. I am concerned that I get a different value (332.570918796713) to that on the Help page and on this wiki page (323.016893587303). I have used the DATE function to specify the dates in column A and wondered whether this somehow makes a difference?
