    Function name:

    SQRTPI

    Category:

    Mathematical

    Summary:

Calculates the positive square root of the mathematical constant π multiplied by a non-negative number.

    Syntax:

    SQRTPI(Number)

    Returns:

Returns a non-negative real number that is the positive square root of π multiplied by the given number.

    Arguments:

Number is a non-negative real number, or a reference to a cell containing that number, that is the required multiple of π.

    • If Number is non-numeric, then SQRTPI reports a #VALUE! error.
    • If Number is negative, then SQRTPI reports an invalid argument error (Err:502).

    Additional details:

    • For a multiplier m, the formula for this function is [math]\displaystyle{ \text{SQRTPI}(m)~=~\sqrt{\pi \times m } }[/math]
    • For more background information about π, visit Wikipedia's Pi page.
    • The figure below illustrates the SQRTPI function.

    Examples:

    Formula Description Returns
=SQRTPI(2) Here the function calculates the positive square root of 2π. 2.506628274631
=SQRTPI(D1) where cell D1 contains the number 1. Here the function calculates the positive square root of π. In mathematics, the square root of π is one of the better known values of the gamma function [math]\displaystyle{ \left(\Gamma \left(\frac{1}{2}\right)\right) }[/math]. Therefore the formula of this example returns the same value as =GAMMA(0.5). 1.77245385090552
