If template has multiple backgrounds, how do I access backgrounds other than the first?

Default templates have the initial slide background defined in the master pages. To access other backgrounds, use the slide design tool:

The template must be saved:

  • Select File ▸ Templates ▸ Save as Template or File ▸ Templates ▸ Save (for older versions of LibreOffice).
    • Select the category (select My Templates to make it available only to the current user, or select an applicable template category to make it available to all users).
    • Click Save.
    • Give the new document template a name.
    • Click OK.
  • Select Format ▸ Slide Design to open the Slide Design dialog.
  • Click Load.
  • Select the Category and Template you want to use.
  • Click OK.
  • The newly available template backgrounds are now visible in the Slide Design dialog. Choose template style you want to use for the current slide.
  • Click OK.

If this method seems too complex and you would prefer direct access to the backgrounds through the master pages, create a background template as described in How do I save a background that I made and use it in a different presentation?.
