Numbers is the spreadsheet application of Apple's iWork office suite. The page compares the available functions between Apple's Numbers and LibreOffice Calc.
The functions of Numbers were taken of the official documentations which can be accessed at apple.com (Numbers '09) and at the online help (for Numbers 4). All functions which are not available in LibreOffice Calc are tracked in tdf#97334.
Work In Progress by Dennis Roczek (talk) 2016-10-23T15:15:24 (UTC) : Stuff with colorful cells are tested and either identical (handling) or marked with additional notes.
Feel free to update / to help me with the list - especially with the statistics functions.
Need to be done: update functions to LibreOffice 5.2 which had been added in the meantime (e.g. Forecasts functions).
Test Numbers' Excel export - does it only exports the values or does it exports the functions with vendor-extensions like we do for OOXML and for ODF.

Comparison of functions
Functions which are identical, but have different names are sorted after LibreOffice naming. Green cells means that the functions work identical (including parameter).

Notes & References
- ↑ ^{1.0} ^{1.1} Numbers doesn't support the R1C1 annotation.
- ↑ ^{2.0} ^{2.1} NUMTOBASE and BASETONUM calculates numbers. DEC2BIN, DEC2OCT, DEC2HEX do the same to Basis 2, 8, and 16.
- ↑ ^{3.00} ^{3.01} ^{3.02} ^{3.03} ^{3.04} ^{3.05} ^{3.06} ^{3.07} ^{3.08} ^{3.09} ^{3.10} ^{3.11} Apple's functions BIN2DEC, BIN2HEX, BIN2OCT, DEC2BIN, DEC2HEX, DEC2OCT, HEX2BIN, HEX2DEC, HEX2OCT, OCT2BIN, OCT2DEC, OCT2HEX all supports a second optional parameter which adds padding 0 infront of the result.
- ↑ ^{4.0} ^{4.1} ^{4.2} Calc and Numbers both remove characters 0-31 as specified in the OOXML specification. Calc also removes character 127. Other seldom used non-printable characters (129, 141, 143, 144, 157, or some Unicode defined ones) are not removed by both spreadsheet applications as defined in ODF. This is tracked in bug report tdf#97706.
- ↑ ^{5.0} ^{5.1} ^{5.2} Numbers has additional support for converting to "week", which is neither defined in OOXML nor in ODF.
- ↑ ^{6.0} ^{6.1} Apple's documentation has an example which is wrong, but works correctly. (wrong result, wrong count of parameters)
- ↑ ^{7.0} ^{7.1} ^{7.2} Apple Numbers' DATEVALUE results a date/time value, LibreOffice' DATEVALUE results in an internal Number as specified in OOXML and ODF. Apple states in the manual that this function was integrated for compatibility reasons with "other spreadsheet applications".
- ↑ ^{8.0} ^{8.1} Apple Numbers' DURATION refers to a length of time; LibreOffice Calc's DURATION is a function to measure a bond price's response.
- ↑ ^{9.0} ^{9.1} ^{9.2} ^{9.3} ^{9.4} ^{9.5} ^{9.6} Apple Numbers' functions EDATE and EOMONTH give a date/time value back, LibreOffice results in an internal number as specified in OOXML and ODF.
- ↑ ^{10.0} ^{10.1} Numbers doesn't support the R1C1 annotation.
- ↑ Apple's INTERSECT.RANGES was "primarily for compatibility with other spreadsheet apps [sic]." The documentation states further that other spreadsheet applications including Numbers ’08 and Numbers ’09 a "simple space is used as the intersect operator". In LibreOffice Calc a ! is used as intersect operator.
- ↑ ^{12.0} ^{12.1} LibreOffice 5.3 will also accept arrays for MIRR as input (which Numbers already does), see bug reports tdf#58585 (for MIRR and IRR) and tdf#100767 (for MIRR).
- ↑ ^{13.0} ^{13.1} ^{13.2} Apple Numbers (and Microsoft's Excel) return the first number, if more than one number occurs the maximum multiple times in the arguments as defined in the OOXML specification. Calc returns the smallest number like defined in the ODF specification. That is tracked in tdf#97977.
