Use bullet points

Icons for the structuring: "Demote", "Promote", "Move down" and "Move up"

Enable Bullet-points

"Toggle Bulleted List" icon in Sidebar

Open Impress and the existing presentation "Aufzählungszeichen in Impress - LO70.odp".

In this section you work with the sidebar.

Click on the "Toggle Bulleted List" icon.

The 3 sentences (are paragraphs) are now each displayed with bullet points.

Click the "Toggle Bulleted List" icon again.

The text is again displayed without bullets.

Position bullet points

Format>Lists>Structure level ... menu

In this section you work with the Format>Lists menu.

To indent a point to a lower or higher level, press the Buttons with arrows to the right or left.

  • Choose Format>Lists>Demote ( Alt + ⇧ Shift + To Right ) or
  • Choose Format>Lists>Promote ( Alt + ⇧ Shift + To Left ) from the menu.

Possible menu selections

___ Sidebar ___

View>Sidebar ( Ctrl + F5 ), there Properties>Lists, you can, for example:

  • Toggle Bulleted List
  • Toggle Numbered List
  • Demote
  • Promote
  • Move Down and
  • Move Up

___ Text Formatting toolbar ___

Alternatively the icons

  • Toggle Bulleted List
  • Toggle numbered List

in the "Text Formatting" toolbar can be used according to the situation.

___ Menu Format>Lists ___

Format>Lists Menu

The menu offers the possibilities:

  • Bulleted List (toggle)
  • Numbered list (toggle)
  • Demote
  • Promote
  • Move Down and
  • Move Up

___ Context menu ___

Context Menu "Text"

Right-click in the text in the middle.

It opens the context menu.

Choose from the menu Bullets and Numbering...

The "Bullets and Numbering" dialog appears.

Here you can make the settings for the bullets.

___Teclado___

  • You can use the Tab ↹ key to initiate an indentation. You can do this several times.
  • Use ⇧ Shift + Tab ↹ to undo the indentation. This can also be done several times up to the left margin.
  • With ⇧ Shift + ↵ Enter you can continue writing the line without bullets.
  • To enter further text (without bullets) in the same horizontal position, press the ↵ Enter key.
  • If you want to continue the text at the left margin, press the ↵ Enter key and the "Toggle Bulleted List" icon.

Special feature slide 1

After opening Impress and the Default template only slide 1 is available without bullets.

If you create a second slide ( Ctrl + M ), it already contains bullets.

Used presentation

The presentation used for this video was created based on the standard template.

To bypass the different behavior of Slide 1 and Slide 2, a Slide 2 was created and Slide 1 was deleted.

Thus, all slides will later behave the same with respect to the bullets.

Font size adjustment

If you write text and it does not fit into the field in one line, then the font size is automatically changed.

If you then enlarge the field, the font size may also be changed back to increased.

Bullet points in the structures/levels

Master view Bullets slide

You can use different characters as bullets in the individual outlines.

View/edit bullets of the outlines

With the file "Bullets in Impress - LO70.odp" open, click on Master View in the sidebar.

In the slide in the "Object Area for Autolayouts" the outline with the assigned bullets is displayed.

If you now place the cursor in the text of an structuring level, you can select the following in the "Text Formatting" toolbar "Toggle Bulleted List>More Bullets..." and select a desired bullet for the outline level.
