Fill Areas

Possible Areas

  • Page background
  • Text Boxes
  • Frames
  • Drawing objects
  • Fontwork
  • Tables (limited)

Possible fillings

Areas can be filled with:

  • None (without)
  • Colour
  • Gradient
  • Image
  • Pattern
  • Hatch

Further explanations are given by means of a Text Box.

Fill Area of a text field

To fill the Area of a Text Box, right-click on the Text Box and choose Area… from the Context menu.

Select the Area tab.

You now have the above options for fills.

None

Does not fill the selected object.

The Area remains transparent.

Colour

Select a color palette and then a desired color.

Gradient

Fills the object with the selected Gradient.

Select a Gradient, change the properties of a Gradient, or save a new Gradient.

Gradient

The Gradient dialog lists the available gradients.

You can also change Gradients or create your own.

Add

Used to add a custom Gradient to the current table.

Set the properties for the Gradient and click this button.

Enter an appropriate name and click OK.

Modify

Applies the current Gradient properties to the selected Gradient.

You can also save the Gradient under a different name.

To rename or delete a Gradient, select the Gradient, right-click, and choose Rename or Delete.

Options

Use the Options to set or change a Gradient.

Options - Type

Select the Type for the desired Gradient.

Depending on the Type, not all functions are selectable.

You can choose from the following Types:

  • Linear
  • Axial
  • Radial
  • Ellipsoid
  • Quadratic
  • Square

Options - Centre X

Enter the horizontal offset for the gradient, where 0% is the current horizontal position of the To Colour in the gradient.

The To Colour is the color selected in the End Color field.

Options - Centre Y

Enter the vertical offset for the gradient, where 0% corresponds to the current vertical position of the To Colour in the gradient.

The To Colour is the color selected in the To Colour field.

Options - Angle

Specify an Angle for the selected Gradient.

Options - Border

Enter the value by which you want to extend the range of the To Colour to the Gradient.

The To Colour is the color selected in the To Colour field.

Options - From Colour

Select a color as the From Colour of the Gradient.

Enter the intensity for the color in the From Colour field, where 0% is black and 100% is the selected color.

Options - To Colour

Select a color as the To Colour of the Gradient.

Enter the intensity for the color in the To Colour field, where 0% is black and 100% is the selected color.

Image

Select an image you want to use as a fill image or add your own image.

Image

Lists the available Images.

You can also import Images.

To rename or delete an Image, select the Image, right-click and choose Rename or Delete.

Add / Import

Click on the Add / Import button.

Locate the Image on your computer that you wish to import and then click Open.

The image will be added to the bottom of the list of available Images.

Imported Images are saved to your User Profile Folder and can then be used in any subsequent documents.

Options

Options - Style

  • Custom Position/Size: Sets a Custom position/size of the Image in the object area.
  • Tiled: Fills the Area with the Image as tiles.
  • Stretched: Stretch the Image to fit the object area.

Options - Size

Size of tiles and Custom size.

  • Width: Set the width of the tile or the custom width.
  • Height: Set the height of the tile or the custom height.
  • Scale: Enable to set the height and width settings relative to the original size.

Options - Position

Select the anchoring position of the image within the object area.

Options - Tile Position

  • X-Offset: Sets the value for the horizontal image offset with respect to the anchoring position.
  • Y-Offset: Sets the value for the vertical image offset with respect to the anchor position.

Options - Tile Offset

Select the tile offset in rows or columns.

Use the spin box to specify the value for the offset.

Preview

Displays a Preview of the current selection.

Pattern

Fills the object with a two-color Pattern.

Pattern

Here is the list of available Patterns.

Patterns can also be changed or added.

To rename or delete a Pattern, select it, right-click on it and choose Rename or Delete.

Add

Adds a custom Pattern to the current list.

Set the properties of your Pattern and then click this button.

Modify

Applies the current Pattern properties to the selected Pattern.

You can also save the Pattern under a different name.

Options

Draw or modify an existing Pattern.

Options - Pattern Editor

Draw the Pattern in the 8 x 8 pixel board.

Click on a pixel to activate it.

Click again to deactivate it.

Options - Foreground Colour

Sets the colour for activated Pattern pixels.

Options - Background Color

Sets the colour for disabled Pattern pixels.

Preview

Displays a preview of the current selection.

Hatch

You can set the properties of Hatch patterns or save a new Hatch pattern.

Hatch

Lists the available Hatch patterns.

You can also modify Hatch patterns or create your own.

To rename or delete a Hatch pattern, select the Pattern, right-click, and choose Rename or Delete.

Add

Used to add a custom Hatch pattern to the table.

Set the properties for the Hatch pattern and click this button.

Modify

Applies the current Hatch properties to the selected Hatch pattern.

You can also save the Pattern under a different name.

Options

Used to create and edit Hatch patterns.

Options - Spacing

Enter the desired distance between the columns.

Options - Angle

Enter an angle for the Hatch lines or click on one of the positions in the angle grid.

Options - Line type

Select the type of hatching you want.

Options - Line Colour

Choose a color for the hatching lines.

Options - Background color

To apply a Background color, check the Background Color box and then select a colour.

Preview

Displays a preview of the current selection.

Shadow and Transparency

In the Area dialog you can still find the Shadow and Transparency tab.

The setting of Shadow affects the whole Text field.

That means you can set a Shadow for the Text field.

Transparency affects the color Gradient.
